DIY 1990s

Between 1996 and 1999, I photographed hardcore, punk, and related music scenes while still in my teenage years. Made on inexpensive film cameras and with limited access, the images document a formative cultural environment rather than a comprehensive scene.

Centered primarily in Houston and Chicago, the work reflects the music, ethics, and social spaces I was personally immersed in at the time, including straight edge hardcore, early emo, and regional punk. Seen in retrospect, the photographs function as an early attempt to record a specific place and moment, shaped as much by proximity and enthusiasm as by intention.
